Tango

Finesse

This project was born from a challenging experience to address South American repertoire, more precisely the Argentine tango, in a different sound manner. So, for Tango Finesse we wanted a premiere adaptation in which we used a combination of less frequently used instruments to interpret this kind of music. This expressive distinctiveness is shown in this project by the mixture of tones from string instruments which are specific to classical music, such as the violin with its bright and sometimes brisk tone, the dark and voluptuous timbre of the viola, the warmth of the cello and the rhythmic grotesque of the contrabass contrasting with the wailing and piercing tone of the pan-pipe, a wind instrument which is unusual for this kind of music. Everything is organically completed by the melancholy of the accordion and veiled by the massive sonority rigor of the piano. This “timbral mix” gives the project an exotic air which is totally distinct from the sound universe we got used to when listening to Argentine tangos. Moreover, I also sprinkled some more special sounds in these musical arrangements, as means of expression which come in addition to this new timbral combination, bringing to the forefront rhythms that give the feeling of a sonority created by percussion instruments. These are sounds that can be technically achieved in practice with the abilities of the instruments used in this musical project.
