29/07/2025

Founded in 2005 under the direction of Lucian Moraru, Traffic Strings bring together classical, jazz, tango, and contemporary music. Their repertoire ranges from Baroque to original compositions, and at their concert in Ljubljana, they will perform works by Vivaldi, Giménez, Baden Powell, Matos Rodríguez, Shorter, Hubbard, Corea, and Enescu.

Traffic Strings was founded by the Romanian viola player Lucian Moraru in 2005. A versatile musician, Moraru trained at the Bucharest Academy of Music before completing his musical education the Netherlands and Great Britain. The name Traffic Strings is a reference to its members constant travels through a wide variety of musical genres and periods. Their rich repertoire covers not only classical works – from the Baroque to the 20th century – but also tango, jazz, pop, traditional music and original compositions. The ensemble has recorded eight albums to date, including last year’s three releases focusing on jazz, Romanian classical music and a blend of Baroque and tango. Their concert in Ljubljana will bring a mix of Romanian musical tradition, jazz and contemporary music, with a programme including an intermezzo by Spanish zarzuela composer Gerónimo Giménez, a piece by the Brazilian jazz and bossa nova guitarist Baden Powell, a tango by Uruguayan composer Gerardo Matos Rodríguez, works by post-bop and jazz fusion giants Wayne shorter, Freddie Hubbard and Chick Corea, a folk-inspired rhapsodic composition by Romanian composer George Enescu and numerous contemporary compositions by Moraru.
